2011 Grand Marshals

In 2011 we will honor and celebrate two important ladies to our (The Shingleton and The Hammett) families. They are the respective matriarchs.

Shirley Price Shingleton, mother of Pat Shingleton, hails from Ellwood City, Pennsylvania. Her husband was a former Grand Marshal, Harold N. (Hab) Shingleton and together they had six children - Dennis, Michael, Patrick, Kevin, Maureen and Mark. She has thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren with two more on the way. She is known simply as Grandma Shirley. Her family still insists she perform her cheerleading moves when they get together. Grandma Shirley is a bundle of goodness always there for friends, neighbors and strangers. Her "famous" homemade bread is not made from a fancy breadmaker but, her two experienced hands and a great recipe. Pat once said, "If Bin Laden came to her back door, she'd invite him in for tea and homemade cookies." This will be her second time to be at our parade.

Gene McFadden Hammett, mother of Grey Hammett, raised her family in Shreveport, Louisiana before moving to Baton Rouge in recent years. Known to Grey as Mother, Gene and husband Robert Grey Hammett, Sr. had three children Cynthia, Susan and Grey. NaNa (pronounced Nanaw) now has nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren with another on the way. Though she doesn't play her beloved golf game these days, she plays a mean game of bridge and is known to take home winnings from time to time of up to $2! Her life has not only been filled with family and fun, but a great amount of volunteer work as well. In 2010 Gene was honored with a Chi Omega award for her sustained involvement.

We salute both of these beautiful ladies and toast them as our 2011 Grand Marshals.
